Romance By Design is a contemporary Christian Romance novella for those who enjoy reading inspirational sweet romances.
Today I’m reviewing Romance By Design, the first book in the Knotty Pine Chronicles by Donna Reimel Robinson.
Here is a brief synopsis:
Goldie Silversmith is a church secretary who longs to get out of the church office and take a trip down to the altar. But she has no one to marry.
Her brother, Mike, keeps setting her up with blind dates, men whom Mike says are great guys, but they turn out to be bald, short, fat, toothy…
It makes Goldie wish she was blind! But one day, Mike sets her up with a tall, handsome, interesting guy who actually makes her heart race.
Ryan Collins just moved to Knotty Pine after earning a master’s degree in architecture. His dream is to work for a big architectural firm and make lots of money. Growing up with poor parents, he now wants to turn the corner and become rich. He’s already designed his dream house, and all he needs is the money to build it. Then he meets Goldie Silversmith, who seems to think he’s her blind date.
Her date? That’s news to him…

I loved this fun, quirky romance novel!
First, I would like to mention the cover… I can’t remember ever making a comment about a cover, but this one is so perfect! It spoke to me… I think I knew I would enjoy the book just by the cover — hmm, maybe you can judge a book by its’ cover!
Goldie is such a colorful character! She can’t cook, but she’s a potter… she doesn’t want anyone to know her real name… and she has a 3-step plan.
Ryan has his own plans, which don’t include getting involved with a church-going chatterbox, but once he meets Goldie, his plans may need to be tweaked.
Goldie’s brother refuses to give up trying to fix her up with blind dates. But what happens when someone shows up at her house when she’s expecting a blind date, and takes the place of her date, without letting her know that he’s not the one she’s expecting… let’s just say she’s not happy when she finds out that she went out with an imposter.
This story is so much fun to read… the characters are just like real people, with the sort of people I would enjoy living around and getting to know. I think Goldie and I would be great friends! And the town sounds so cute with quaint names for the shops… the Kaffee Klatch, the Knitting Knotty, the Knotted Quilt… and Take Me For Granite (guess what this is)!
Oh well, it’s too bad that this isn’t a real town – and Goldie is only a character. Donna writes such an entertaining story with funny, memorable people that I was disappointed when I reached the end!
I can’t wait to read book 2… Romance In Recovery!
