Today I’m reviewing Silent Pledge, the third book in the ER Trilogy, by Hannah Alexander.
Here is a brief synopsis:
Compassion draws together the lives of Dr. Lukas Bower and Dr. Mercy Richmond, as Lucas struggles with the unique challenges of working in a tiny rural clinic and Mercy struggles to balance her duty to her work and the needs of her daughter.
Dr. Mercy Richmond struggles to balance her roles as a single mother and busy physician whose patients have nowhere else to go.
Her small Missouri town has no E.R. and Mercy is overwhelmed by the sick, the injured and the personal problems they bring into her clinic—and her life.
If she thought her schedule would help her forget Lukas Bower, the handsome doctor she believes betrayed her, she was wrong. A new Christian, Mercy must make a decision that will change four lives forever—including her daughter’s. And then Lukas comes home….

Hannah immediately transports readers into the middle of the action! All you can do is hang on… and keep reading!
Silent Pledge begins just a little slower than the other two books in this series. Odira Bagby is caring for her great granddaughter, who has cystic fibrosis. When Crystal begins to run a high fever with a bad cough, she does the only thing she can do under the circumstances – call Dr. Mercy for help!
In this third book of the series, the Knolls Community Hospital E.R. is no more… if you read the book, you’ll find out what happened to it, but I hate to divulge that information in my review, in case you’re reading the series now.
Anyway, suffice it to say that things are not going well in Knolls, Missouri… Dr. Lukas Bower is working temporarily in Herald, Missouri; Dr. Mercy Richmond is kept busier than ever with the clinic – and housecalls from people in the community; fireman Buck and his wife Kendra are having their own problems, and Delphi Bell is going to need help – and soon!
Hannah’s characters are complex, professional “real” people who are very convincing, and she sprinkles the people we’ve gotten to know and love with new characters in each book. This is the last book of the series – and I can’t stress enough how much you should read them all – begin with the first one and read all three in order.
You don’t have to do this to enjoy each one, but the story moves along especially well when you do… and rest assured that I’m not going to give away anything, so you’ll have to read them for yourself to find out how this exciting series ends…
