Autumn Winds | Charlotte Hubbard & Naomi King Marathon

Today I’m reviewing Autumn Winds, the second book in the Seasons Of The Heart series by Charlotte Hubbard.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Winds of change are blowing through Willow Ridge, and they’re bringing a stranger to the Sweet Seasons Cafe.

At first, widowed Miriam Lantz has misgivings about Ben Hooley, a handsome but rootless traveling blacksmith. But as she gets to know the kind-hearted newcomer, she wonders if his arrival was providential.

Perhaps she could find love again – if only there weren’t so many obstacles in the way.

With Bishop Knepp relentlessly pursuing her hand in marriage and the fate of her beloved cafe at stake, Miriam must listen to God and her heart to find the happiness she longs for, and the love she deserves.

As much as I LOVED the first book, I can honestly say I LOVE this one more!

In book one, we met Miriam, a widow who was being pursued but didn’t want to be married again; she was happy with her life. But in book two, Ben Hooley comes to Willow Ridge—and captures Miriam’s eye. Will she change her mind about marrying again? Well, that’s a good question. And you’ll find the answers in the book.

There are a lot of twists and turns going on in this book—especially concerning Bishop Knepp—but you’ll have to read the book to find out just what he’s up to… I hate spoilers so I won’t be giving anything away in this review.

Charlotte Hubbard is an expert at creating three-dimensional Amish characters who follow the rules of the church—but don’t mind bending them a bit at times. I guess what I’m saying is that they seem much more “human” and I’d love to meet people such as these in Willow Ridge.

As far as romance, it is handled tastefully and the problems Miriam encounters—especially with Bishop Knepp—are surprisingly, but believable. Of course, I wanted to smack the bishop… more than once!

God’s presence, his guidance, and his love, is very evident in the story. I love how much Ben and Miriam pray about situations—and people—looking to God for the answers.

I whole-heartedly encourage you to ready the Seasons of the Heart series!

I read this book in one day this week. Thankful that our local library has been able to obtain these through inter loan since I’m unable to purchase the series currently. You have woven in the new characters with the aunts in an amazing way. I would like to add this series to my library some day. Blessings. Hope to win something in this contest. Thank you!
