Winter of Wishes | Charlotte Hubbard & Naomi King Marathon

Today I’m reviewing Winter of Wishes, the third book in the Seasons Of The Heart series by Charlotte Hubbard.

Here is a brief synopsis:

As another year draws to a close in Willow Ridge, life seems to be changing for everyone but Rhoda Lantz.

Her widowed mother is about to remarry, her sister is a busy newlywed, and soon Rhoda will be alone in her cozy apartment above the blacksmith’s shop.

An ad posted by an Englischer looking for someone to help with his mother and children may offer just the companionship she’s looking for, but if she falls for the caring single father, she may risk being shunned by her community.

Certain she can only wish for things she cannot have, Rhoda must remember that all things are possible with God, and nothing is stronger than the power of love.

Another great book centered around the Sweet Seasons Cafe. –RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

I hope I don’t confuse you… I’m trying to keep these book in chronological order, so if you’re reading along with me this month, you’ll know the correct order to read them. We began with the Seasons of the Heart series (by Charlotte Hubbard); then switched to the Home At Cedar Creek series (by Naomi King). With that series complete, let’s head back to Willow Ridge (Seasons of the Heart)…

Winter of Wishes was fantastic! I can’t say enough about it!

In this installment, Miriam is preparing to marry Ben, Rachel is happily married to Micah, but Rhoda is left on her own—something she hasn’t gotten used to—and she applies for a job with an English family. What will happen to her if she gets more involved with the family—especially the dad who is divorced—and how would such a thing affect her family… and her community?

I loved how Charlotte showed Hiram’s character flaws, without going further than necessary. Oh my, such a realistic situation (well, I hope there aren’t bishops out there who behave as he does, but it is certainly possible—even quite probable). Charlotte writes about what is happening between Hiram and several members of his community, while showing how compassionate the people—and the bishops from neighboring communities—are towards him, while not downplaying his wrongs.

Of course, I can’t really say much more without giving away anything, but I think that’s enough for now. After all, if you’ve been following along with Summer of Secrets and Autumn Winds, you know much has been happening in Willow Ridge.

Keep reading with me… I’m headed to Naomi King’s One Big Happy Family series next…

Thanks, DK! Willow Ridge appears on the surface to be this quaint, quiet little town…but we all know better!

I’ve read many “nanny” type stories…..where the woman in the story takes care of a widower’s children & they fall in love by the end of the book! Wonderful stories each one….this sounds like it would be just as enjoyable. This one has a couple of twists, he’s an Englisher & divorced….this will most likely get Rhoda shunned….sounds intriguing!

You’re on the right path with your thinking, Trixi! Rhoda doesn’t choose the easy path here!
