Today I am reviewing Saving Gideon, the first book in the Clover Ridge series by Amy Lillard.
Here is a brief synopsis:
Gideon Fisher wants one thing out of life — to be left alone. This is not the Amish way, but he’s devastated after the death of his wife and son to the point of losing his faith.
He buys a farm on the outskirts of the district and pulls away from his community. But when a freak spring snowstorm brings a beautiful Englisher to his farm, what choice does Gideon have but to let her in?
Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton is intrigued by the Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his austere lifestyle.
Poor little rich girl, Avery has just gone through (yet another) bad breakup. Every man she meets only wants her for her father’s money.
All she has ever wanted is to be loved for herself. Avery soon discovers the Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and heal her broken heart.
But she finds a peace in those back roads that she’s never felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she connects with God and those around her. And there’s something more as she begins to care for this man who needs both love and forgiveness.
Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love, but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the beauty of life and God’s greatness. Yet as the feelings between Avery and Gideon grow, can they overcome their dissimilar lifestyles, or will their sheer differences pull them apart?
Since my favorite genre is Amish fiction, I asked Amy if I could feature her Amish books this month — and I wasn’t disappointed.
Avery Ann, or Annie (as Gideon refers to her), falls in love with the Oklahoma Amish country — and their way of life — and doesn’t want to leave! Gideon, who has hidden himself away, and wants nothing to do with anyone, finds himself agreeing to let Annie stay awhile.
And the rest . . . is history.
Can Annie change Gideon’s mind about staying away from the Amish community — and the church? Will Gideon push Annie away, as he’s done with everyone else? Will he ever come back?
All of these questions are answered in Saving Gideon… just read the book. Even better, pick up copies of the whole series. I believe after this week, you’ll be wanting to read all three wonderful stories in the Clover Ridge series.
Amy Lillard does a superb job writing about the Amish way of life — and how an Englischer tries to fit in. I had barely begun to read, when I found myself lost in the story of Annie and Gideon. My heart ached — and thrilled — as their stories unfolded.
Don’t miss this exciting series, found in the wonderful (fictional) community of Clover Ridge.
