Once Upon a Farm | Rory Feel

Today I am reviewing Once Upon a Farm, with lessons on growing love, life, and hope on a new frontier, by New York Times Bestselling Author Rory Feek.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Sometimes it’s not only what we plant but where we’re planted.

Now raising their four-year-old daughter, Indiana, alone, after Joey’s passing, Rory Feek digs deeper into the soil of his life and the unusual choices he and his wife, Joey, made together and the ones he’s making now to lead his family into the future.

When Rory Feek and his older daughters moved into a run-down farmhouse almost twenty years ago, he had no idea of the almost fairy-tale love story that was going to unfold on that small piece of Tennessee land . . . and the lessons he and his family would learn along the way.

Now two years after Joey’s passing, as Rory takes their four-year-old daughter Indiana’s hand and walks forward into an unknown future, he takes readers on his incredible journey from heartbreak to hope and, ultimately, the kind of healing that comes only through faith.

A raw and vulnerable look deeper into Rory’s heart, Once Upon a Farm is filled with powerful stories of love, life, and hope and the insights that one extraordinary, ordinary man in bib overalls has gleamed along the way.

As opposed to homesteading, this is instead a book on lifesteading as Rory learns to cultivate faith, love, and fatherhood on a small farm while doing everything, at times, but farming. With frequent stories of his and Joey’s years together, and how those guide his life today, Rory unpacks just what it means to be open to new experiences.

“This isn’t a how-to book; it’s more of a how we, or more accurately, how He, God, planted us on a few acres of land and grew something bigger than Joey or I could have ever imagined.”

MY THOUGHTS:

“A man famous for loving his wife is challenged to rise to an even greater love as a father.”

This is such a sweet, touching story. . . one that begins with Rory Feel and his teenage daughters moving into a run-down house on a farm in Tennessee. At the time, he had no idea that he would meet and marry the love of his life, nor that she would be taken from him long before he was ready to say goodbye.

When you pick this book up and turn to the first page, you’ll be drawn into the stories. . . and you won’t want to put the book down until the end. But if you’re like me, you’ll want to have tissues handy. The stories are sweet, sassy, and sometimes emotional.

Get the book.  Read the book.  Then share the book.

Happy Reading!

Blessings!

The Gift | Shelley Shepard Gray

Today I am reviewing The Gift, the third book in The Amish of Hart County series by Shelley Shepard Gray.

Here is a brief synopsis:

The Schwartz family is happy to be spending Christmas on their new farm in Hart County. But when Susanna Schwartz hears gunshots that causes her buggy to overturn, and then her little sister falls through a wooden bridge into the icy creek, it becomes clear from these dangerous “accidents” that someone wants them gone.

Neil Vance has been heartbroken ever since his parents lost their family farm. He knows it’s not the Schwartz family’s fault, but he can’t help but be resentful. Until he meets Susanna. She is kind-hearted and bold, and Neil can’t stop thinking about her pretty green eyes.

Neil thinks the accidents are just that, but Susanna’s father is convinced the Vance family is responsible. Susanna refuses to believe Neil would do anything to harm her. She’s fallen in love with him and knows he is a good man. But her family is ready to pack up and move, and time is running out to uncover the truth before someone gets hurt…or worse.

MY THOUGHTS:

As long as Shelley keeps writing Amish fiction, I’ll keep reading it… because I have LOVED each and every one of her books!

I can only imagine how difficult it would be to move to a new home just before Christmas. A place where you don’t know anyone and everyone seems unfriendly. Neil Vance knows Susanna Schwartz and her family are not responsible for his family losing their farm. And the accidents. . . well, he thought they were truly accidents. Obviously, I lost myself in the story, but will I find my way back out? Join me and spend Christmas with the families in Hart County.

Shelley truly does give us a story full of love and blessings–one we’ll cherish at Christmas time.

Whatever you do, don’t miss out on this wonderful story.

Blessings!

His Guilt | Shelley Shepard Gray

Today I am reviewing His Guilt, the second book in The Amish of Hart County series by Shelley Shepard Gray.

Here is a brief synopsis:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray delivers the next novel in her Amish of Hart County series—a suspenseful tale of an Amish man who will risk all to protect the woman he loves.

Mark Fisher has returned home to Hart County, determined to put the past behind him. Two years ago, after being wrongly accused of assault, he left the Amish community, though never forgot his home.

When the one person who had helped him through his rough times asks for help, Mark returns. But it is pretty Waneta Cain who makes him want to stay…

Neeta is one of the few people in Hart County who doesn’t believe Mark is guilty of hurting anyone. However, his worldliness and tough exterior do make her uneasy. As she begins to see the real man behind all the gossip and prejudice, she wonders if he is the man for her.

Just when Mark starts to believe a new life is possible, a close friend of Neeta’s is attacked. Once again, everyone in the community seems to believe he is guilty.  But what hurts most is Neeta’s sudden wariness around him. When another woman is hurt, a woman who is close to both Neeta and himself, Mark fears he knows the real culprit. And time is running out. Will Mark be able to find him before Neeta becomes his next victim?

MY THOUGHTS:

His Guilt introduces the Fisher boys… Mark and Calvin come from the worst sort of home, so it’s no surprise that they leave Hart County to explore the English world. Mark returns two years later and goes to work for his friend Henry Lehmann. But it’s sweet, innocent Waneta Cain who touches his heart. But Neeta doesn’t trust Mark. . .

When Mark is suspected of attacking someone, people in the community continue to doubt his innocence. Should he stay even when neighbors are pushing him to go? I know just what I would tell him to do. . .

I loved this story! If you enjoy reading Amish fiction by Ms. Gray, I’m thrilled to recommend His Guilt for your bookshelf. Get your copy today!

Happy Reading!

Blessings!

Her Secret | Shelley Shepard Gray

Today I am reviewing Her Secret, the first book in The Amish of Hart County series by Shelley Shepard Gray.

Here is a brief synopsis:

A suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker

After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she’s getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn’t too scared to take it.

Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone—even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she’ll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was.

For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called “The Recluse” confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he’s misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God’s gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there’s always more to someone than meets the eye.

Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

MY THOUGHTS:

Oh my!  This is a very good beginning to The Amish of Hart County series…

I was a bit trepidatious, given the story plot, but as I have always enjoyed Ms. Gray’s Amish fiction stories, I felt certain I would enjoy this one, too.

Once I began reading, I did not put down the book until I finished it!

I was in the store with Hannah when she opened the brown envelope… I moved from Ohio to Kentucky with her… I walked through the woods with her… and I stayed with her until the very end.

Hannah Hilty and Isaac Troyer are definitely two of my favorite new characters. Isaac is prone to not rush into things, but he is quick to step up and take responsibility — and action — when needed. That Hannah and Isaac took their time getting to know one another, instead of rushing into a relationship, made the story much more realistic to me.

If you enjoy reading Amish fiction by Ms. Gray, I’m thrilled to recommend Her Secret  for your bookshelf. Get your copy today — and immerse yourself in what’s happening in Hart County.

God bless you!

COMING SOON… JC Morrows

I have some exciting news to share!

First, I have the distinct pleasure of sharing some exciting information about the first book in JC’s upcoming urban fantasy series…

Book 1 of the Andarii Chronicles

TAKEN

From the back cover:

This is not a story you want to miss; this book, or any book of this series. It’s a story that spans galaxies, involves multiple peoples, and it will reveal a destiny that no one saw coming.

No prophecy brought her here. No ancient oracle foretold her coming. No ancient tablet spoke about the role she is destined to fill. But life and fate brought her where she needs to be to save more than one planet.

While we wait for more information, please add this book to your GOODREADS shelf!

And JC has graciously agreed to share with you some hints about other projects, upcoming series, and works-in-process. . .

Also slated to release in 2018 is a story about an alien and the one she is connected to. You may have seen updates during November. JC did not win NaNoWriMo this year, but she did get a good start on LINKED – book 1 of the NEW Across the Void series.

She is also busily working on a time travel story, a dragon series and she is co-authoring a story with her daughter Macy.

Exciting things coming.

Thank You!
Blessings!
