Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel | Mike Berenstain

Today I am reviewing The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel, a Living Lights faith-based story, by Mike Berenstain.

Here is a brief synopsis:

In the newest Berenstain Bears Living Lights book, The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel, the cubs discover there’s more to angels than wings and flowing white robes!

It is almost Christmas and there is finally snow in Bear Country. Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear are ready for some winter fun! But when they can’t decide what kind of snowbear to build, Honey Bear’s snow angel gives the older cubs a great idea.

Soon the cubs have built a Christmas snow angel. Later, as they warm up with some hot cocoa, Mama and Papa give the cubs a little lesson about some very special angels and the work they do for God.

MY THOUGHTS:

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
~Psalm 91:11

My family was thrilled to discover a new Christmas story to add to the other stories we have. Living Lights Berenstain Bear books are a way of introducing – and encouraging – good character qualities. And in today’s world, good character qualities are unfortunately not the norm.

As a Christian family, we have a special appreciation for Christian faith-based stories in the Living Lights series.

The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel shares how God sent an angel to Mary, to give her the wonderful news that she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus! He also sent angels to spread the good news to the shepherd in the fields — and to Joseph to warn him to flee to Egypt with Mary and Baby Jesus.

The story imparts some great news . . . that angels are sent to us to share good news, warn us of bad things coming, and for guidance and protection.

It will be a great addition to your family library. Be sure to pick up a copy soon for your family . . . and get a few extra copies to give as Christmas gifts.

This book will most definitely be a blessing to children (and parents) everywhere!

Happy Reading!

My grandchildren were delighted to view the new Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional . . . it’s the perfect addition to our family library — and a perfect choice for my granddaughter to read from each evening before she hops into bed (like brother and sister bear).

Simple Pleasures | Marianne Jantzi

Today I am reviewing Simple Pleasures by Marianne Jantzi.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Young Amish homemaker Marianne Jantzi invites readers into her family’s life and Amish community.

The mother of four young children and wife of a storekeeper, Jantzi writes about her daily routines and heartfelt faith with equal measures of wit and warmth.

Sewing, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and helping to manage the store take up most hours in her day, but Jantzi finds time to pen columns for the Connection, a magazine beloved by Amish and Mennonite readers across the United States and Canada.

Never sugarcoating the frustrations of motherhood, Jantzi tells it like it is, broken washing machine and bickering children and all. But through her busy days, Yoder finds strength in simple pleasures of family, fellowship with her Amish community, and quiet time with God.

Hear straight from Amish people themselves as they write about their daily lives and deeply rooted faith in the Plainspoken series from Herald Press. Each book includes “A Day in the Life of the Author.”

MY THOUGHTS:

Simple Pleasures is a joy to read…

Marianne Jantzi speaks of real life – real day-to-day events, not fiction, not storytelling, but real, honest-to-goodness happenings. I could tell . . . most of the stories are too funny, too sad, or too deep – to be made up.

I confess, sometimes it sounds almost as if Marianne’s husband is telling the story. But I could be wrong (or maybe I was tired and didn’t pay good enough attention) . . . because I read the book without taking a single break. Not one. It was that good.

Warning: if you don’t like learning about how other people live, especially those who don’t live the same type of lifestyle you live, you might not enjoy this book. Then again, you just might. It’s very entertaining. Mostly because it involves small children – and children are almost always entertaining.

I learned a lot. And I’d love to visit Marianne and watch her family. They seem to have so much fun!

Marianne doesn’t hide her relationship with God – she shares it with her readers. I love this!

If you do enjoy reading about Amish life, you’ll love Simple Pleasures!

Happy Reading!

God Bless You!

My Dolphin Friends | Gwen Miller

Today I am reviewing My Dolphin Friends by Gwen Miller.

Here is a brief synopsis:

For most of her life, Gwendolyn has been following Winter’s story.

After writing a letter and a Christmas card (and receiving a very nice card back), Gwendolyn wanted to share how much she loves Winter and the staff of Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

We hope you enjoy her story as much as we have!

Gwendolyn is a sweet young lady who – like the stars of “Dolphin Tale” (one of her favorite movies) – is home-schooled.

She has a deep love of animals. Her dearest wish is to swim with Winter and Hope one day.

Read the delightful story… MY DOLPHIN FRIENDS — written by Miss Gwen Miller! Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

Young Gwen has a true love for animals – especially dolphins!

When the movie DOLPHIN TALE was first released, Gwen watched it – and fell in love with Winter and Panama. She watched the movie over and over again. She told her friends about Winter. She was excited that she was home-schooled – just like the kids in the movie.

Now, DOLPHIN TALE was written from a true story – and it’s almost unheard of that a second movie is made from the same true life story. But that’s exactly what happens… after Panama dies, Winter must be paired with another dolphin. Just before she is scheduled to be moved to another state, a young dolphin was rescued. Eventually they were paired. What a happy ending!

No, I’m sorry to say, Gwen has not yet been able to visit Winter and Hope, but she’s promised to write about her visit – if and when she gets to visit Winter and Hope – in person.

I’m hoping she gets her wish…

Sam’s Adventurous Birthday | Samuel Miller

Today I am reviewing Sam’s Adventurous Birthday by Samuel Miller.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Twelve is a milestone birthday!

It deserves a BIG celebration!

Follow Sam as he visits Parrot Mountain, the Apple Barn Restaurant, the Titanic Museum and more…

WHAT FUN!

Read the delightful tale SAM’S ADVENTUROUS BIRTHDAY — written by Samuel Miller for his 12th birthday! Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

Young Sam has a way with words…

It is clear that a child has indeed written this adventure.

But seeing it from his point of view should thrill other children. Sam is in a position to give a unique look at how wonderful – and adventurous – a birthday can be. It doesn’t seem like his family has gone out of their way to spend lots of money, or give him expensive gifts.

Instead, young Sam has asked to spend time with a much-beloved lady who is dear to him – and visit a special attraction. What his family does is wonderful indeed… not only does he get to visit Parrot Mountain, but another attraction nearby – the Titanic Museum.

After lunch at a favorite family restaurant – the Apple Barn – his family spends time with their friends in Knoxville.

Truly a remarkable young lad…

Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones | Jan and Mike Berenstain

Today I am reviewing The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones by Jan and Mike Berenstain.

Here is a brief synopsis:

The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones is perfect for young children.

Now toddlers have a padded board book edition designed just for them, with simple text, bright art, and a padded cover.

This cute and durable edition provides an overview of the Bible with ten stories from the Old and New Testaments that follow the Bear family as they explore Scripture.

The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Toddlers is fun and enlightening for kids and a great resource for parents and educators.

MY THOUGHTS:

I love the Berenstain Bears books — especially the Living Lights books. Mike Berenstain does a tremendous job of teaching good habits in his Living Lights books.

This book is especially for little ones… with specially-chosen stories from the Bible, including the Creation, Noah and the Ark, David and the Giant… and several stories about Jesus.

This is a perfect book for reading to your little ones at bedtime, but it’s sturdy enough for little hands to turn the pages and enjoy all on their own.

Be sure to pick up a copy for the little ones in your life…
