A Christmas Gift for Rose | Tricia Goyer

Today I am posting my review of A Christmas Gift for Rose, a Christmas story by Tricia Goyer.

This story is truly a wonderful, inspiring story.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Rose turned her back on the man she loves after he assisted the Englisch during World War II—only to discover she’s an Englischer herself.

Born in the midst of the hardships of The Great Depression, Rose grew up in Berlin, Ohio, in the arms of a loving Amish family.

But she is overwhelmed by self-doubt when she learns that she was born Englisch and abandoned when her family moved West in search of work.

Was she meant to be Amish or would she have been better off growing up with her own kind—Englischers? When the man she loves leaves her behind,

Rose is certain he left for good. Yet Rose discovers sometimes our greatest gifts are the ones we fear.

I typically avoid books about war but I’m really glad I picked this one to read! I love Christmas stories and this will be a welcome addition to my collection. This is An Amish historical novel dealing with the effects on families from World War 2.

It’s a wonderful story. There is conflict and resolution. The characters and the story are both completely believable.

It took lots of twists and turns that I did not see coming. That’s always a good thing. Too many books these days are absolutely predictable. This one is not. It’s great!

Happy Reading — and Merry Christmas!

God bless you!

A Tapestry of Secrets | Sarah Loudin Thomas

Today I am reviewing A Tapestry of Secrets, book three of the Appalachian Blessings series, by Sarah Loudin Thomas.

Here is a brief synopsis:

This Decade-Spanning Novel of Family and Faith Will Delight. . .

Now in her eighties, Perla Phillips has carried a secret since she was eighteen years old.

When she sees her granddaughter, Ella, struggling for perfection, she decides to share her secret to show that God can use even the biggest mistakes for good.

But before she can reveal what happened during that summer sixty years ago, she has a debilitating stroke.

Carrying a secret of her own, Ella arrives back in Wise, West Virginia, to help her aunt Sadie care for Perla. Both know the woman wanted to tell them something, but she’s now locked in silence.

Together they begin looking into the past, but they may learn more than they expected. Will they have the courage to share their hearts? Or will the truth remain buried forever?

I’ve enjoyed reading the Appalachian Blessings series — and was delighted to receive a copy of A Tapestry of Secrets, the third book in the series.

Sarah writes so eloquently about the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia, that I find myself wanting to to visit . . . for a year or so! The strong family ties in the series is evident — and I have looked forward to each story. This book does not disappoint. Perla has always been a favorite character. While her health is declining, it wasn’t unexpected. But life goes on. . .

If you enjoy colorful characters, strong roots, and beautiful stories, you’ll enjoy reading the Appalachian Blessings series. My advice — start with Appalachian Serenade and don’t stop till you’ve read ’em all!

Happy Reading!

The Loyal Heart | Shelley Shepard Gray

Today I am reviewing The Loyal Heart, book one of the Lone Star Hero series, by Shelley Shepard Gray.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Robert came to Galveston to fulfill his promise to a dying man and look after his widow.

He didn’t expect to find love in the unlikeliest of places.

Robert Truax, former Second Lieutenant and Confederate officer in the Civil War, made a promise to his comrade Phillip Markham.

If anything happened to Phillip, Robert would look after his beloved wife, Miranda. She was his life, his world, his everything.

After the war, Robert is left to pick up the pieces and fulfill his pact. When he arrives at Miranda’s home in Galveston, Texas, things are worse than he imagined. Phillip’s name has been dragged through the mud, everyone in town believes him to be a traitor, and his widow is treated as an outcast. Even more disturbing is her emotional well-being. Miranda seems hopeless, lost, and so very alone.

Robert had thought his duty would be simple. He would help Miranda as quickly as possible in order to honor a promise. But the moment Robert laid eyes on her, his plans changed. He’s mesmerized by her beauty and yearns to help her in any way he can.

He makes it his duty to protect Miranda, turn her reputation around, and to find some way to help her smile again. But it doesn’t prove to be an easy task—Robert knows something about Phillip that could shake Miranda to the core and alter her view of the man she thought she knew so well.

I’ve read pretty much everything that Shelley Shepard Gray has published. While the Chicago World’s Fair Mystery series was really good, The Loyal Heart is a new favorite. I even love the series name — A Lone Star Hero’s Love Story. That says it all, in a nutshell.

I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Happy Reading!

The Ringmaster’s Wife | Kristy Cambron

Today I am reviewing The Ringmaster’s Wife, by Kristy Cambron.

Here is a brief synopsis:

What is revealed when you draw back the curtain of the Greatest Show on Earth?

Rosamund Easling is no stranger to opulence. As the daughter of an earl, she’s grown up with every comfort money can buy.

But when hard times befall the family’s Yorkshire estate in the aftermath of the Great War, Rosamund’s father sells her beloved horse, setting the stage for a series of events that would extend beyond even her wildest dreams.

Though expected to marry for a title instead of love, Rosamund feels called to a different life – one of adventure outside the confines of a ladies’ parlor. She abandons all she’s known and follows in pursuit as her horse is shipped to the new owner – an American entertainer by the name of John Ringling.

Once introduced to the Ringling Brothers’ circus and knowing she has much to learn, Rosamund agrees to a bareback riding apprenticeship in the shadow of the Ringlings’ winter home—Ca’D’Zan. It is at that mansion, in what would become the last days of the enigmatic Mable Ringling’s life, that Rosamund finds a deeper sense of purpose in the life she’s been given, and the awakening of faith in her heart.

With a supporting cast of characters as mysterious and dazzling as the Ringlings’ big-top world, Rosamund’s journey takes her from the tradition of the English countryside to the last days of America’s Roaring ‘20s—a journey that forever changes what one life might have been.

This is the first book I’ve read by Kristy Cambron . . . but it certainly won’t be the last.

The Ringmaster’s Wife is a wonderful story of the beginning of faith. After her father sells her horse, and it is shipped to John Ringling, an American entertainer, Rosamund Easling travels from her home in Yorkshire, to America, and agrees to a bareback riding apprenticeship.

Kristy Cambron does a superb job with magnificent details throughout the book.  Don’t miss this spectacular story!

Happy Reading!

A Desperate Escape | JC Morrows

Today I am reviewing A Desperate Escape, the 3rd novel (and the 6th story) in the Order of the MoonStone series, by the fabulous JC Morrows.

Here is a brief synopsis:

A Secret . . . A Confession . . . A Decision . . . that will change the lives of an entire country.

The palace is scrambling to recover from a brutal assault . . . the country is in disarray . . . and the royal security team is on edge like never before.

Kayden entered the palace under a lie . . . a lie that has now been exposed.

And now . . .

Prince Dvarius has to decide what to do with his reluctant assassin.

A Desperate Escape by JC Morrows… will Kayden make it out alive? Don’t miss this action-packed sequel!  – Tweet this!

It’s stupendous! It’s everything I’ve been waiting to read in this series… now the action comes alive!

What can I say! Kayden continues to steal the show!

But this time Dvarius gets in on the action, too.

When Kayden tells him she was sent to kill him, what will he do? I wish I could tell you more… about what happens when the palace is attacked from the outside . . . and other operatives are found in the palace… and what happens to Dvarius – and his reluctant assassin . . .

But I can’t – I truly can’t. You’ll have to read it for yourself – and the sooner, the better. The only other thing I can suggest is for you to read the entire series, if you haven’t already done so.

And if you check out the reviews, people are saying it may be the best story — so far . . .

This is a great series, comparable to The Selection series and The Lunar Chronicles!

I read on MuggleNet that it may be the next fanfiction!

Don’t miss this great story…

Dawn at Emberwilde | Sarah E. Ladd

Today I am reviewing Dawn at Emberwilde, the second book in the Treasures of Surrey series by Sarah E. Ladd.

Here is the brief synopsis:

Isabel Creston never dared to dream that love could be hers. Now, at the edge of a forest filled with dark secrets, she faces a fateful choice between love and duty.

For as long as she can remember, beautiful and free-spirited Isabel has strained against the rules and rigidity of the Fellsworth School in the rolling English countryside.

No longer a student, Isabel set her sights on a steady yet unexciting role as a teacher at the school, a safe yet stifling establishment that would provide her a steady environment to care for her younger sister Lizzie, who was left in her care after her father’s death.

The unexpected arrival of a striking stranger with news of unknown relatives turns Isabel’s small, predictable world upside down, sweeping her and her young charge into a labyrinth of intrigue and hidden motives.

At her new family’s invitation, Isabel and Lizzie relocate to Emberwilde, a sprawling estate adjacent to a vast, mysterious wood rife with mysterious rumors and ominous folklore—along with whispers of something far more sinister. And perhaps even more startling, two handsome men begin pursuing Isabel, forcing her to learn the delicate dance between attraction, the intricate rules of courtship, and the hopes of her heart.

At Emberwilde, Isabel will discover that the key to unlocking the mystery of her past may also open the door to her future and security. But first she must find it—in the depths of Emberwilde Forest.

Oh my! Dawn at Emberwilde is a really great story!

As far as I know, this is the first book I’ve read by Sarah E. Ladd — but I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last. I can’t wait to read the first book in this series.

Which is pretty amazing, since I’m not usually prone to read historical romance. And, although it is listed as a Christian read, there’s really nothing in the story to substantiate that genre; however, it definitely falls under inspirational. Non-Christians, as well as Christians, will enjoy this heart-warming story.

If you enjoy historical fiction, you’ll love Dawn at Emberwilde — there’s mystery, manipulation, and so much more!

Happy Reading!!!

The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson

Today I am reviewing The Beautiful Prentender by Melanie Dickerson.

Here is a brief synopsis:

What happens when a margrave realizes he’s fallen in love with a servant?

The Margrave of Thornbeck has to find a bride, fast. He invites ten noble-born ladies from around the country to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks, a time to test these ladies and reveal their true character.

Avelina is only responsible for two things: making sure her deception goes undetected and avoiding being selected as the margrave’s bride.

Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant, sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.

Despite Avelina’s best attempts at diverting attention from herself, the margrave has taken notice. And try as she might, she can’t deny her own growing feelings.

But something else is afoot in the castle.Something sinister that could have far worse—far deadlier—consequences. Will Avelina be able to stop the evil plot? And at what cost?

Melanie Dickerson has been a favorite author of mine — since the first time I read one of her books! And she continues to bless me with her stories!

If you not a fan of Melanie Dickerson, I would suggest you give her a try… her books are spiritual (without being preachy), romantic (without being sappy), adventurous (and a bit scary, but not too much) and completely awesome! After reading the first chapter, you can tell Melanie has gone above and beyond in doing her research, and it shows in her books.

If you are a fan of Melanie, I would suggest, if you haven’t read it, that you read The Huntress of Thornbeck. Then dive into The Beautiful Pretender. But make sure you have lots of time, because you’re not going to want to stop reading!

And, if you’re like me, when you’re done, you’ll be ready for another  . . . but we have to wait, at least for awhile, until the next one is released.

The Beautiful Pretender can be read as a stand-alone, but as it involves the characters in The Huntress of Thornbeck, it’s best to read them together.

I’m not saying anything else . . . if I haven’t convinced you to read the story, you’re just going to miss out on a great story — and a great series. All kidding aside, get a copy. read it. Just read it.

You’re gonna love it!!

Happy Reading!
