Murder Simply Brewed | Vannetta Chapman

Today I am reviewing Murder Simply Brewed, the first novel in the Amish Village Mystery Series by Vanetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Spring has arrived in Middlebury, Indiana, and Amber Wright can see profits in sight for her collection of Amish artisan shops—until she receives a call that Ethan Gray is dead.

Hurrying over to A Simple Blend, she finds a single hole in the front window and Mr. Gray dead from an apparent heart attack. All the money is still in his register.

Hannah Troyer takes over the shop’s duties, and she and Amber become fast friends as well as amateur sleuths. The police believe Gray’s death to be a by-product of vandalism, but Amber and Hannah aren’t so easily convinced.

Old Testament clues that don’t add up, a neighbor who is pulled into the midst of the investigation, a town with secrets to hide, and blossoming romance—all will combine to push Amber and Hannah into unfamiliar roles in order to solve a mystery and bring peace to the Amish community.

MY THOUGHTS:

Wow! It began so quietly… for a moment or two I thought it might not be as exciting and “mysterious” as Vannetta’s Shipshewana Amish Mystery series…

au contraire!

I have never, to my knowledge, finished a book, only to pick it up again almost immediately to read through again, but that is exactly what I did!

Murder Simply Brewed proved nearly impossible to put down… I can’t remember the last time I felt so anxious… so nervous… waiting for the killer to make their move!

The characters are amazing! Vannetta has captured so many different personalities. Putting them together to solve the mystery works perfectly. I love her idea of adding the “mystery package”. I laughed and laughed over the idea!

Honestly, I cannot say enough about how much I love Vannetta’s writing…

I have quickly learned that Vannetta’s books all belong on my “top shelf”.

A Simple Amish Christmas, the first Vannetta Chapman book is my favorite was my favorite since the day I read it… until now. Murder Simply Brewed has stolen 1st place!

Pick up your own copy today… don’t miss this fantastic read!

Happy Reading!!!

Blessings!

Who the Bishop Knows | Vannetta Chapman

Today I am reviewing Who the Bishop Knows, the first book in The Amish Bishop Mysteries series by Vannetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis:

What You Don’t See Might Hurt You

Every year, residents of the small Amish community in Monte Vista, Colorado, look forward to the Ski Hi Stampede, the state’s oldest professional rodeo. The rodeo is always good, clean entertainment for the hardworking farmers of the San Luis Valley. But this year, the Stampede turns deadly for one Amish man. Did rodeo fans see an unfortunate accident? Or something more sinister?

Amish bishop Henry Lapp is known far and wide for his uncanny ability to draw and remember the smallest details of anything he’s seen, skills that have served him well in past investigations. He was at the rodeo that day. The problem? He didn’t see Jason Scott’s death.

With a murderer on the loose and members of his community being threatened, Henry must act fast. But can he solve a crime he didn’t see? This time around, Henry will have to rely on his keen sense of human character and observation, skills he’s honed in his role as bishop, if he hopes to crack the case.

What the Bishop Knows is a story of accepting our talents, putting one another first, and trusting that God will care for His children.

MY THOUGHTS:

Oh my goodness!  Another murder!

Will Bishop Henry Lapp and his lady friend, Emma Fisher, ever get the chance to go forward with their relationship? Of course, his special gift would be helpful… if only he had witnessed the murder. Unfortunately, he wasn’t in the stands where he might have seen something. Instead, he was at the hot dog counter, getting a snack for himself and Emma — and he missed the whole thing.

So then, why does he keep getting the feeling that he should use his special gift… to sit down and draw… whatever comes to mind. Even though he doesn’t think he saw anything, maybe there’ll be something that will help. At least, that’s the way his gift usually works.

I love this series by Vannetta Chapman! This is a series by Ms. Chapman that is going on my TOP SHELF! Don’t miss this exciting series… get your copies and read them for yourself.

Happy Reading!!!

Blessings!

When the Bishop Needs an Alibi | Vannetta Chapman

Today I am reviewing When the Bishop Needs an Alibi, the second book in The Amish Bishop Mysteries series by Vannetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis:

A Terrible Secret Hides in the Bulrushes

Amish bishop Henry Lapp eagerly awaits the annual arrival of 20,000 sandhill cranes to the San Luis Valley of Colorado. But his visit to the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge reveals more than just a miracle of God’s creation. Hidden among the bulrushes and cattails is the deceased body of a young woman.

As the local authorities attempt to unravel the mystery, Henry feels God’s calling to use his extraordinary talent to aid in the investigation. His ability to draw from memory in photographic detail could help solve this puzzling case.

Henry’s closest friend, Emma Fisher, has always urged him to embrace his gift. As their relationship deepens, Henry realizes his involvement could put him and those he loves in the direct path of a killer, one who is willing to do anything to cover up a brutal crime, including framing the bishop.

When the Bishop Needs an Alibi is a compelling story of faith, friendship, and finding courage only God can provide.

MY THOUGHTS:

Wow!  Bishop Henry Lapp gets into trouble no matter where he goes — or what he does!

With his friend Emma Fisher’s help, Henry is finally beginning to see his special gift as a blessing, instead of a curse. When a young woman is murdered, Henry and Emma decide to do whatever they can to help find out what happened to her.

Unfortunately, the killers find it easy to plant evidence at Henry’s home — and do everything they can to make the police believe Henry killed Sophia Brooks, the young woman who just recently began working at Maggie’s Diner. Will Henry be able to convince the judge and jury that he’s not guilty? Will the real killers ever be caught? Pick up a copy of When the Bishop Needs an Alibi and find out for yourself.

I can tell you that this series is just as exciting as I hoped it would be — and just as much fun, too.

Check back in a few days for a review of the last book in the series. . .

Happy Reading!!!

What the Bishop Saw | Vannetta Chapman

Today I am reviewing What the Bishop Saw, the first book in The Amish Bishop Mysteries series by Vannetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Somewhere in the Embers Lies the Truth

A fire blazes out of control in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, leaving an elderly Amish bachelor dead. Bishop Henry Lapp rushes to the scene, and he learns the fire was no accident. Someone intended to kill Vernon Frey. But who would want to kill Vernon? Well, practically everyone—Amish and Englisch alike.

When the police point the finger at a suspect Henry knows is innocent, the bishop must decide whether or not to use his mysterious, God-given gift—one he’s tried desperately to ignore all these years—to try and set the record straight. His close friend and neighbor, Emma, encourages Henry to follow God’s leading.

Could the clue to solving the case be locked somewhere deep in his memory? Will Henry find the courage to move forward in faith and put the right person behind bars? Is his friendship with Emma becoming something more?

What the Bishop Saw is a story of extraordinary talents, the bonds of love and friendship, and the unfailing grace of God.

MY THOUGHTS:

Vannetta Chapman has a gift for writing amazing Amish stories!

Bishop Henry Lapp has a special gift, although he never saw it as a gift. After Vernon Frey, an elderly Amish bachelor dies in a fire, Henry learns that the fire was not an accident… and his friend Emma Fisher encourages him to use his special gift to try and find a clue as to who is responsible.

I loved meeting Bishop Henry and his friend Emma… and the possibility of a future courtship! Of course, if they decide to just remain friends, that’s all right, too. It was such a joy getting to know the friends and neighbors in the small town of Monte Vista.

Vannetta created an awesome series… with lots of excitement and the action never seems to stop!

Be sure to pick up a copy of What the Bishop Saw and check out this series.

Check back in a few days for a review of the next book in the series. . .

Happy Reading!!!

Peace in the Valley | Ruth Logan Herne

Today I am reviewing Peace in the Valley, the third book in the Double S Ranch series by Ruth Logan Herne.

Here is a brief synopsis:

In spite of their differences, Trey Walker Stafford knows he owes his life to cowboy and legendary rancher Sam Stafford–the uncle who rescued him after his parents’ death.

Trey had left the Double S Ranch to pursue music against Sam’s wishes, but returns to central Washington when he learns he’s the best match for a procedure that could save Sam’s life.

Although Trey’s found country music fame and success, he’s also endured the tragic loss of his wife. He croons about love, but struggles with a yawning emptiness he can’t explain.

Overwhelmed by a growing list of challenges, but mistrustful of Stafford men, single mother Lucy Carlton reluctantly accepts Trey’s help to revive her crumbling farm when Sam instructs him to repay the overdue debt to her family.

As the two grow closer, Trey slowly begins to open his heart to this beautiful woman and strives to let go of the grief he’s held for years. Lucy has a complicated history of her own. Can Trey accept her as she is, learn to forgive the past, and find the elusive peace he’s sought for so long?

MY THOUGHTS:

This is another series by Ruth Logan Herne for my TOP SHELF!

When Trey Stafford learns that his uncle needs him, he returns home, prepared to do the right thing. While he’s there, he meets Lucy Carlton, who needs his help, too.

This is such an intriguing story. . . a member of my family had the same procedure, so it was very familiar to me. The story was great, with colorful characters facing more than one challenge.

Don’t miss out on this wonderful new book from Ruth Logan Herne.

Home on the Range | Ruth Logan Herne

Today I am reviewing Home on the Range, the second book in the Double S Ranch series by Ruth Logan Herne.

Here is a brief synopsis:

A cowboy romance with a heart of gold…

In Home on the Range author Ruth Logan Herne returns readers to the Double S Ranch where God and family are first, but love is certain to follow the Stafford menfolk.

Nick made all the wrong choices for all the wrong reasons. His father had failed at marriage and fatherhood. Nick was determined to show him up. He’d be a better husband, better father and a better ranch manager than Sam Stafford ever hoped to be.

But Nick’s wife Whitney hated the ranch and she walked out on Nick and their two beautiful daughters three years ago. For a long time Nick pretended everything was fine and when his stubborn nature is finally challenged by trouble with his young girls, he’s faced with the changes he should have made long ago.

Psychologist Dr. Elsa Andreas had a thriving family therapy practice, a school commission, a good life, but tragedy pushes Elsa to walk away from her life. Three years later, she’s tucked herself in the backwoods of Gray’s Glen.

When her sister encourages her to help Nick Stafford’s daughters, Elsa takes a chance. But Nick’s ex-wife comes back to town, threatening the girls’ newfound stability. Can Nick find the forgiveness and Else the courage to build their own “Home on the Range”?

MY THOUGHTS:

Back In The Saddle was so much fun to read . . . Home On The Range is every bit as good, although I won’t say it’s all fun. Ruthy deals with some painful subjects, such as divorce, desertion, plus a panic attack or two thrown in for good measure.

Nick Stafford has made his share of mistakes, but he’s determined to do his best, where his two daughters are concerned. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that his best is enough — his oldest daughter is failing school — and has more attitude than she needs!

Elsa needs to rejoin the world, starting with helping Nick and his girls. Can she overcome her past long enough to reach for a future that includes a family? You won’t know until you read the book – and you really should read the book. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did… to the very end.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic new series from Ruth Logan Herne.
