Pocket Prayers for Teachers | Max Lucado

Today I am reviewing Pocket Prayers for Teachers  by Max Lucado and Jennifer K. Hale.

Here is a brief synopsis:

All the way from coloring inside the lines to calculus, teachers have given us the tools to thrive.

Where would we be without them?

But a teacher s job is often a difficult one.

Sometimes anxiety and exhaustion become the norm.

For those in need of a little peace and renewal, Max Lucado points to the Teacher who offered just that.

Pocket Prayers for Teachers contains forty scriptures and guided prayers written especially for those special people, who encourage and inspire our students.

MY THOUGHTS:

Max Lucado writes with humor, compassion, and respect. He speaks of the Bible, the disciples and how they asked Jesus to teach them to pray.

Then Max, with the help of Jennifer K. Hale, has chosen 40 very special Bible passages, and written out 40 specific prayers — especially for teachers.

After reading through the prayers and writing my review, I presented this book to a very special teacher.

I hope these prayers are as special to her — and you — as they are to me.

Happy Reading!

God Bless You!

Pocket Prayers for Dads | Max Lucado

Today I am reviewing Pocket Prayers for Dads  by Max Lucado and Mark Mynheir.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Dads wear many hats. From protector to playmate, confidante to counselor.

No matter the role, families rely on dads to lead with strength and faith.

And in Pocket Prayers for Dads, Max Lucado offers forty scriptures and guided prayers that will help dads do just that.

MY THOUGHTS:

Max Lucado writes with humor, compassion, and respect. He speaks of the Bible, the disciples and how they asked Jesus to teach them to pray.

Max, with Mark Mynheir, has chosen 40 specific Bible passages, and written out 40 specific prayers — especially for Dads.

After reading through the prayers and writing my review, I placed this book on my shelf — waiting for a time when the Lord shows me who to gift it to . . . perhaps a new Dad — or one who’s been a Dad for many years. I don’t know yet — but I’m watching for the right one.

Happy Reading!

Simple Pleasures | Marianne Jantzi

Today I am reviewing Simple Pleasures by Marianne Jantzi.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Young Amish homemaker Marianne Jantzi invites readers into her family’s life and Amish community.

The mother of four young children and wife of a storekeeper, Jantzi writes about her daily routines and heartfelt faith with equal measures of wit and warmth.

Sewing, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and helping to manage the store take up most hours in her day, but Jantzi finds time to pen columns for the Connection, a magazine beloved by Amish and Mennonite readers across the United States and Canada.

Never sugarcoating the frustrations of motherhood, Jantzi tells it like it is, broken washing machine and bickering children and all. But through her busy days, Yoder finds strength in simple pleasures of family, fellowship with her Amish community, and quiet time with God.

Hear straight from Amish people themselves as they write about their daily lives and deeply rooted faith in the Plainspoken series from Herald Press. Each book includes “A Day in the Life of the Author.”

MY THOUGHTS:

Simple Pleasures is a joy to read…

Marianne Jantzi speaks of real life – real day-to-day events, not fiction, not storytelling, but real, honest-to-goodness happenings. I could tell . . . most of the stories are too funny, too sad, or too deep – to be made up.

I confess, sometimes it sounds almost as if Marianne’s husband is telling the story. But I could be wrong (or maybe I was tired and didn’t pay good enough attention) . . . because I read the book without taking a single break. Not one. It was that good.

Warning: if you don’t like learning about how other people live, especially those who don’t live the same type of lifestyle you live, you might not enjoy this book. Then again, you just might. It’s very entertaining. Mostly because it involves small children – and children are almost always entertaining.

I learned a lot. And I’d love to visit Marianne and watch her family. They seem to have so much fun!

Marianne doesn’t hide her relationship with God – she shares it with her readers. I love this!

If you do enjoy reading about Amish life, you’ll love Simple Pleasures!

Happy Reading!

God Bless You!

Be The Miracle | Delores Liesner

Today I am reviewing Be The Miracle by Delores Liesner.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Whether we title these unexplainable happenings miracles, God-sightings, or some other name, people love to hear of such occurrences.

Why? They increase our faith by providing evidence of the miraculous in our everyday lives and heighten awareness of God’s desire to minister personally to us and through us.

Unique connecting verses, defining thought, key words, and personal challenges will help the readers go beyond the “good for her” feeling and bring each story’s teaching to life in their own daily walk.

Many will find comfort knowing they are not alone in hearing God’s voice or direction.

Others also will deepen their walk with God, gain the courage to listen for God’s voice, be a noticer of others’ needs, and practice hearing and answering God’s call to deliver a specific answer to a specific person. Sometimes walking in faith seems risky because it means obeying even if the directions don’t seem to make sense.

When Abraham brought Isaac in faith up the mountain for a sacrifice, he risked all believing that God’s character would not fail him. God did keep His promise and provided a lamb, and Abraham passed the test of trust and faithfulness.

What do we risk daily for the Lord? These life-vignettes encourage readers that risking embarrassment is a small price for the incredible joy of seeing God work over and over again.

How can YOU put hands and feet to your faith and BE The Miracle for someone else?

BE THE MIRACLE . . . Don’t miss these heartwarming, life-changing experiences by Delores Liesner – Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

Mission Impossible? Not With God!

This is truly an amazing book, filled with stories of miracles! Does God really perform miracles – in 2016? Yes, He does!!!

This is the book for you, if you need encouragement, help, or a spiritual blessing. Delores Liesner writes about miracles in her life that will inspire you and increase your faith, as you read what God has done in her life.

At the end of each chapter – each miracle – Delores adds a life-changing lesson, a life-changing Bible verse, and a life-changing challenge for readers!

I highly recommend this book – to readers everywhere!

God bless you!

Blessings!

Strong and Kind | Korie Robertson

Today I am reviewing Strong and Kind by Korie Robertson.

Here is a brief synopsis:

What Legacy Will You Pass Down To The Next Generation?

“After being a parent for twenty years, I have come to believe that the most important thing for parents to decide — more important than bottle or breastfeeding, more important than co-sleeping or sleep training, and even more important than whether to put your child in day care or become a stay-at-home parent — is what values are important to your family and how you will go about instilling those values in your children.”

In Strong and Kind Korie Robertson — with the help of her mom, Chrys Howard, and with insights and stories from her husband, Willie — introduces nine character traits that children need in order to lead a successful life.

And though there are no perfect parents or perfect children, Korie shares principles — based on biblical wisdom and time-tested practices — that will help you parent your own one-of-a-kind child.

Many parents want to see positive character traits in their children but wonder how to instill them. As stars of the hit reality-TV show Duck Dynasty, Korie and Willie Robertson receive loads of letters and messages from fans asking how they’ve raised such good kids. As they will tell you, “it isn’t always easy, but raising kids with good character is possible.”

A straightforward, practical approach to parenting, Strong and Kind helps you identify the character traits you want to see in your children and gives you the tools for putting them in place.

By modeling positive traits, with confidence, consistency, creativity, unity, and in truth and love, you can increase the chances of your kids catching on. At the end of the day, the Duck Dynasty stars say the most important thing you can do for your children is what they do at the end of every episode: hand them over to God in prayer.

It has never been more essential to teach your children well. Read STRONG AND KIND by Korie Robertson – Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

What America needs today are parents who don’t just say they value these virtues but who live them and passionately and boldly teach them to their children. It’s up to me and you and every parent in America to make the necessary changes to give our children the opportunity to change the world. We do that by instilling good character traits in them so that they will be capable of being the adults our world needs.
—Korie Robertson

With each book I read by one of the Robertsons, I am more impressed — and more blessed. Although the reality TV show is meant to entertain, to a certain degree, this family means business when it comes to faith and family.

As Korie so eloquently puts it, the key to teaching children well is “raising children of good character requires thoughtful, consistent, intentional parenting”. Strong and Kind demonstrates real-life ways to do this.

You won’t want to miss this awesome book.

Get your copy today! Read it — and apply it — to your own life.

God bless you!

My Dolphin Friends | Gwen Miller

Today I am reviewing My Dolphin Friends by Gwen Miller.

Here is a brief synopsis:

For most of her life, Gwendolyn has been following Winter’s story.

After writing a letter and a Christmas card (and receiving a very nice card back), Gwendolyn wanted to share how much she loves Winter and the staff of Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

We hope you enjoy her story as much as we have!

Gwendolyn is a sweet young lady who – like the stars of “Dolphin Tale” (one of her favorite movies) – is home-schooled.

She has a deep love of animals. Her dearest wish is to swim with Winter and Hope one day.

Read the delightful story… MY DOLPHIN FRIENDS — written by Miss Gwen Miller! Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

Young Gwen has a true love for animals – especially dolphins!

When the movie DOLPHIN TALE was first released, Gwen watched it – and fell in love with Winter and Panama. She watched the movie over and over again. She told her friends about Winter. She was excited that she was home-schooled – just like the kids in the movie.

Now, DOLPHIN TALE was written from a true story – and it’s almost unheard of that a second movie is made from the same true life story. But that’s exactly what happens… after Panama dies, Winter must be paired with another dolphin. Just before she is scheduled to be moved to another state, a young dolphin was rescued. Eventually they were paired. What a happy ending!

No, I’m sorry to say, Gwen has not yet been able to visit Winter and Hope, but she’s promised to write about her visit – if and when she gets to visit Winter and Hope – in person.

I’m hoping she gets her wish…

Gwen Miller has a love for animals, but especially dolphins! Read her story about Winter and Hope. Tweet this!

God bless you!
