All Is Calm, All Is Bright | Colleen Coble

Today I am reviewing All Is Calm, All Is Bright, two Christmas novellas by Colleen Coble

Here is a brief synopsis:

All Is Calm

Brendan Waddell needs a place to recuperate. Lauren Everman needs a place to hide. It’s going to be an unexpectedly romantic Christmas at Bluebird Ranch.

Brendan Waddell has always considered Bluebird Ranch a little piece of heaven: an idyllic ranch that pairs abused children with abused horses, run by one of his old Marine buddies. Now, recovering from an on-the-job injury, Brendan thinks the ranch is the perfect place to spend Christmas healing up.

When Lauren Everman was a seventeen-year-old foster kid, Bluebird Ranch was the safest place she knew. Now it’s the perfect hideout for a woman on the run. As the witness to a murder, Lauren needs somewhere to lie low, and her skill with horses means she’ll be able to lend a hand with the troubled kids at Bluebird—without answering too many questions.

Lauren’s rich hair, high cheekbones, and dark eyes immediately get Brendan’s attention—but so does her secretive behavior. This Special Ops Intel man knows a woman on the run when he sees one, and he’s not about to let her put Bluebird Ranch at risk.

But as Brendan and Lauren get to know each other, their suspicions evaporate and romance starts to sizzle. But this would-be couple has more to worry about than each other—there’s a killer on the loose who wants Lauren kept quiet.

All Is Bright

A romantic, Christmas wedding at her seaside hotel gives Delilah a chance to shine with her unique gifts. But will her light be snuffed out before the bride and groom say “I do”?

As manager of the Tidewater Inn, Delilah Carter has been planning a spectacular Christmas wedding for her friends at the grand hotel overlooking the ocean. While picking up still more twinkly lights and some last-minute groceries for the reception dinner, a huge truck runs her off the freezing, wet roads into the dark night. Her car stops just short of an enormous tree and the truck speeds off into the night.

Delilah escapes with her life and has almost convinced herself the whole thing was an accident, but then she begins to receive threatening phone calls. With the wedding just hours away, she’s distracted and anxious. Then Sheriff Tom Bourne stops by the inn and volunteers to help.

Tom has always had a soft spot for Delilah, and he’s determined to protect her. But he is pulled away by a bizarre Christmas stunt that has the neighborhood reeling, and Delilah is attacked again.

Will Delilah have to cancel the Christmas wedding at Tidewater Inn? And will Tom’s protection be enough to save Delilah from the shadowy figure looming in the background?

These stories are great! Well-written, with interesting characters and plot, the only problem I had was not being able to stop reading – until I finished not just one of the stories, but the entire book!

Never having read anything by Colleen, I didn’t know what to expect, but I had high expectations — and I wasn’t disappointed in the least. Now I’m ready to begin a Colleen Coble collection of my own!

I was expecting  an historical setting, not suspense and mystery . . . and I was pleasantly surprised by both, in two entertaining, suspenseful stories. Although the titles say “Christmas” to me, it wasn’t the main focus, so these stories can be read – and enjoyed – anytime.

If one of your favorite genres is suspense/mystery, without the gore, you will love reading All Is Calm, All Is Bright.

Merry Christmas!

Abducted | Dana Mentink

Today I am reviewing  Abducted, the third book in the Pacific Coast Private Eyes series by Dana Mentink.

Here is a brief synopsis:

When the high school sweetheart she never expected to see again bursts through the door of her medical mission clinic, nurse Sarah Gallagher can’t hold back her shock.

But Dominic Jett isn’t there to catch up. He’s trying to save a life, and the thugs on his tail will stop at nothing to catch him.

Now abducted and imprisoned on a remote island, Sarah and Jett become pawns in a tug-of-war between a powerful drug lord and a devious madman.

And their only chance for survival is working together to find the valuable painting the dangerous men are searching for.

But with someone trying to kill them at every turn, can they locate it in time to keep their reunion from turning fatal?

Sarah Gallagher is shocked when Dominic Jett shows up at her clinic…

Whew… exciting stories!

In this third book of the series, the tension mounts as Sarah and Dominic are kidnapped. What will happen to them? If you want to know, you’ll have to read this action-packed story for yourself. I’m not giving anything away!

Dana Mentink creates complex, interesting characters – and if you haven’t read the other stories in this series, let me encourage you to do so… you can read just one – or all three in sequence – but just do it!

Happy Reading!

God bless you!

The Amish Heiress | Patrick E. Craig

Today I am reviewing The Amish Heiress, the first book in The Paradise Chronicles by Patrick E. Craig.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Rachel Hershberger’s life in Paradise, Pennsylvania is far from happy.

Her papa struggles with a terrible event from the past, and his emotional instability has created an irreparable breach between them. Rachel’s one desire is to leave the Amish way of life and Paradise forever.

Then her prayers are answered. Rachel discovers that the strange, key-shaped birthmark above her heart identifies her as the heir to a vast fortune left by her Englischer grandfather, Robert St. Clair.

If Rachel will marry a suitable descendent of the St. Clair family, she will inherit an enormous sum of money. But Rachel does not know that behind the scenes is her long-dead grandfather’s sister-in-law, Augusta St. Clair, a vicious woman who will do anything to keep the fortune in her own hands.

As the deceptions and intrigues of the St. Clair family bind her in their web, Rachel realizes that she has made a terrible mistake. But has her change of heart come too late?

Don’t miss THE PARADISE CHRONICLES by Patrick E. Craig… Tweet this!

Patrick E. Craig writes a very intriguing book.

Nope, it’s not like many of the Amish fiction novels I have read, although I’ve discovered that many authors write Amish fiction differently than expected – and Patrick is no exception.

I guess you could say his novels are exceptional.

I was quickly drawn into the story… Rachel Hershberger’s life hasn’t been easy – even for a Amish family – but I guess I’m not giving away too much when I say that she expects her life to get much better when she learns that she’s the heir to a fortune!

The characters are well-developed; the plot is unusual (for the Amish) and there are enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the story until the very end.

But that’s all I’m going to say about it… I’m a real stickler for not revealing too much; I’d much rather you read it for yourself.

…and you should. Really.

It’s a great story – oh, how I’d love to say more, but I dare not (do you see how difficult it is to brag on a great story, without revealing any spoilers!)

Race For The Gold | Dana Mentink Marathon

Today I am reviewing Race For The Gold by Dana Mentink.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Speed skater Laney Thompson still has nightmares about the car crash that almost shattered her lifelong dream.

But as she’s poised to compete in the world’s most important games, she finds worse trouble.

Someone wants her out of contention… badly. Laney won’t let anything stop her — not sabotage, a stalker or partial amnesia.

As she and her brooding trainer Max Blanco strive to overcome past tragedy, the ice between them starts to melt.

But as the race draws closer, a killer becomes more desperate, and a race for the gold becomes a race for their lives!

Dana Mentink writes awesome suspense novels… don’t miss RACE FOR THE GOLD! Tweet this!

Ouch! Someone is seriously trying to wreck Laney’s chance at the Olympics!

I have to admit, I wanted to smack Max, when he doubted her. I mean, come on! Does he trust her — or not? Well, I guess I got sucked into the story again. But it’s not difficult when I’m reading great books. One minute I’m sitting on my couch reading — the next minute I’m sliding on the ice, trying to lesson the impact when I slam into the wall in the next few seconds!

Nope; I’ve never skated on ice (I’m not even allowed on roller skates anymore, since I took a tumble and started having seizures)… but when I read Race For The Gold, I could feel myself gliding, the cold air rushing past me, as I skated faster and faster.

I would love to share more with you, but if I do, I might give too much away. So read it for yourself — you are really going to love it!

Dana Mentink writes awesome, believable stories with characters you would love to get to know better — at least the good guys. You really shouldn’t want to meet the bad guys, even if you are intrigued by them.

I highly recommend this book… actually, I recommend ALL of Dana’s books!

Secret Refuge| Dana Mentink Marathon

Today I am reviewing Secret Refuge, the second book in the Wings of Danger series by Dana Mentink.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Former parole officer Mick Hudson blames himself for the death of Keeley Stevens’s sister. If he hadn’t paroled a criminal, she might still be alive.

When he hears that the suspected killer has been spotted in Keeley’s hometown, he worries she might be the next victim.

Keeley doesn’t want to take help from the man who could have prevented her sister’s death, but she has more than herself to worry about.

She’ll do anything it takes to protect her family.

And Mick will risk his life to make sure that the past does not repeat itself.

This was my first Dana Mentink novel… and I promised you it wouldn’t be my last… now I’ve read — and reviewed — fifteen (15) Dan Mentink novels!

I picked up this book – and literally (and physically) didn’t put it down until I had read the last page.

Dana wastes no time putting you squarely in the middle of the action in her suspense novels. No sooner are you introduced to the two main characters – but that you’re thrown in the midst of a battle between the good guy and the bad guy!

It never stops… and that’s probably what makes it seem so real to me! I was totally lost in the story; holding my breath and hoping Keeley and I could get away from her sister’s murderer. Hey, wait a minute… it’s just a story – isn’t it?

Whew! OK; I get a bit carried away at times.

Dana Mentink writes amazingly believeable stories… her characters obviously have real problems, including Keeley, whose sister was murdered, leaving Keeley to raise her special needs daughter as her own.

Dana writes suspense stories for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Books. Incidentally, the only Harlequin books that I enjoy reading are the Love Inspired books. Thankfully, there are many categories to choose from… inspirational, suspense, historical… check them out today.

And DON’T miss out on those by Dana Mentink – read my reviews for her books at

… and don’t miss this amazing series!

Hazardous Homecoming| Dana Mentink Marathon

Today I am reviewing Hazardous Homecoming, the first book in the Wings of Danger series by Dana Mentink.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Little girl lost …

Ruby Hudson finds new evidence that could shed light on her childhood friend’s disappearance. But she’ll have to fight for her life to keep it out of the wrong person’s hands.

Cooper Stokes’ brother is still the prime suspect, and as the cold case heats up, so do Ruby’s forgotten feelings for Cooper.

Ruby wants justice for her friend. Cooper wants to prove his brother’s innocence. Despite being on opposite sides, they find themselves drawn to one another.

But the deeper they dig into decades-old secrets, the closer they come to having to make a choice between family and love.

Alice Walker and Ruby Hudson were best friends — until Alice disappeared — twenty years ago. One minute she was there; the next she was missing.

Peter Stokes, a young man who lived in the village, had been seen nearby and he had become the main suspect for a while. Was it Peter who took her? Killed her?

Dana Mentink does a superb job keeping the reader guessing what will happen next. I have to admit — I had lots of ideas, but I was completely surprised when I reached the end! It’s so good I’ve read it twice now.

Oh, my goodness! Ruby, with the help of Cooper Stokes, Peter’s younger brother, tries to uncover the truth. Will she be the next victim?

Dana creates such realistic characters that I began to worry about Ruby’s life… I dare not say any more, or I might give too much away. But please read it for yourself — you’re going to love it!

I highly recommend this book… actually, I recommend the series. You should really read the series!

…and next, I’ll be reviewing Secret Refuge, book 2 in the series.
