Christmas Cookie Mystery | Naomi Miller

Today I am promoting Christmas Cookie Mystery… the second book in the Amish Sweet Shop Mystery series by Naomi Miller.

Here is a brief synopsis:

In the small town of Abbott Creek, mystery is as much a part of daily life as The Sweet Shop’s Christmas cookies.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Katie Chupp is spending her days catering to the holiday rush. With everyone in town ordering special desserts and treats, will Katie be able to find time to finish making gifts for her family and friends?

With a winter chill settling in and Christmas right around the corner, no one would expect a mystery, but a mystery does indeed appear… when a certain dear family finds an unexpected package at their door.

And this is one mystery that may never be solved…

NAOMI’S THOUGHTS:

Christmas is my favorite holiday… and I want to share it with my readers.

Not only do I want to share some favorite recipes, but I want to share all the goodness and excitement and hope that Christmas brings to so many people.

I believe that Christmas Cookie Mystery tells a sweet story about the folks in the Abbott Creek community; not only their faith and forgiveness, but their resolve to help one another.

There are more than enough books to read about murder and mayhem, not to mention vampires and zombies. . . but sometimes we need a sweet story that gives us hope and faith.

The Amish Sweet Shop Mystery series has has been compared to the Nancy Drew series, and it’s perfect for young readers, but I’ve heard from many readers — young and old alike — who enjoy the stories.

I hope readers will pick up this book (and future books in the series) when they need something to distract them from sadness, worry, and doubt. I hope Christmas Cookie Mystery leaves them with a feeling of peace, love and joy!

Happy Reading!

Naomi

God bless you!

Berenstain Bears: The Very First Christmas | Jan & Mike Berenstain

Today I am reviewing The Berenstain Bears: The Very First Christmas, a Living Lights faith-based story, by Jan & Mike Berenstain.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Join the Bear cubs as they learn all about Jesus’ holy birth.

From the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary to the visit from the three wise men, join Mama, Papa, Brother, Sister, and Honey as they discover the story of the very first Christmas.

MY THOUGHTS:

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
~Luke 2:11-12

My family was delighted to discover that the Berenstain Bear stories are a way of introducing – and encouraging – good character qualities. And in today’s world, good character qualities are unfortunately not the norm.

As a Christian family, we have a special appreciation for the Christian faith-based stories in the Living Lights series.

The Very First Christmas shares how God sent an angel to Mary, to give her the wonderful news that she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus!

Most of us have already read the story of Jesus’ birth. Jan and Mike Berenstain use their wonderful Berenstain Bears to tell the story again – to their dear, little readers.

It will be a great addition to your family library. Be sure to pick up a copy soon for your family . . . and get a few extra copies to give as gifts.

This book will most definitely be a blessing to children (and parents) everywhere!

God bless you!

Berenstain Bears’ Caring and Sharing Treasury | Jan & Mike Berenstain

Today I am reviewing The Berenstain Bears’ Caring and Sharing Treasury, a Living Lights faith-based 5-book collection, by Jan & Mike Berenstain.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Time after time the Living Lights, Berenstain Bears series has attracted young readers through creative and engaging stories that not only entertain but teach values and life lessons.

Now, five of the series’ most loved books are available in a comprehensive bind-up.

This Living Lights collection is sure to be a popular choice for readers who enjoy this lovable series.

This collection includes:
–        Jobs Around Town
–        Get Involved
–        Love Their Neighbors
–        Gossip Gang
–        The Biggest Brag

MY THOUGHTS:

My family LOVES the Berenstain Bear stories . . . even though my grandchildren are growing up, they still collect new stories — and special collections. They assure me that they are saving them for their own children — and grandchildren.

And I can’t argue with stories that endorse — and encourage — good character qualities. In today’s world, good character qualities are falling by the wayside.

As a Christian family, we have a special appreciation for the Christian faith-based stories in the Living Lights series.

Jobs Around Town teaches young cubs how to determine the type of career to choose.

Get Involved teaches the ways young cubs can be involved at home, school, church and in their city.

Love Their Neighbors teaches to not judge others based on first impressions.

Gossip Gang teaches how gossip can hurt little cubs, as well as others around them.

The Biggest Brag teaches young cubs how bragging and competing can hurt others.

This will be a great addition to your family library. Be sure to pick up a copy soon for your family . . .

God bless you!

A Dolphin Wish | Natalie Grant

Today I am reviewing A Dolphin Wish, book #2 in the Glimmer Girls series, by Natalie Grant.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Join twins Mia and Maddie and their sidekick little sister, LuLu, as they travel the country finding adventure, mystery, and sometimes mischief along the way.

Together with their famous mother, singer Gloria Glimmer, and their slightly wacky nanny Miss Twist, the sisters learn lessons about being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole lot more.

In A Dolphin Wish a three-night stop in the city of San Diego seems like it might be just the break the girls need—lovely weather and great sights to see.

That is until they hear animal handlers at “Watery World” talking about the trouble they’ve been having keeping the animals in their habitats.

Mia and her sisters cannot resist a challenge and they talk Miss Twist into another visit to the educational amusement park to search for clues as to what or who is helping the animals escape.

MY THOUGHTS:

When I saw the cover for this book, I was excited. My granddaughter loves dolphins – and I was certain she would enjoy this cute story.

Upon reading over the story myself, I have decided not to pass the book along to her, for several reasons. I am not comfortable with the premise of a young girl making a wish and having it magically granted. I expect to find things like that in secular novels… not Christian fiction.

I am also concerned about the way this book is written. My grandchildren are both quite advanced in their reading skills, but I am not at all convinced this book is written with young children in mind. It reads more like a young adult novel.

The story even feels more like one you would find in the pages of a teen read, just not as long.

If you enjoy reading YA secular stories, and you like dolphins, you’ll probably love this story!

God Bless You!

Andi Unstoppable | Amanda Flower

Today I am reviewing Andi Unstoppable, the third book in the Andi Boggs series by Amanda Flower.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Andi Boggs and her best friend Colin Carter are at it again…

In this third book of the Andi Boggs series, Andi Unstoppable, school has begun for the two Killdeer middle schoolers and the science teacher has a great idea!

He is an expert birder and wants his class to share in the fun.

In a birding group with Colin and her biggest school rival, Ava, Andi sets out to be the first student in class to spot the elusive Kirtland’s warbler but ends up spotting the town’s resident ghost instead!

Together, with her friends, Andi takes on another small town mystery.

Is the legend of the ghost of Dominika Shalley more than just a story? And does her sudden appearance have anything to do with the holes the friends find in the Shalley graveyard as they look for the rare bird?

New Release… Don’t miss ANDI UNSTOPPABLE by Amanda Flower Tweet this!

MY THOUGHTS:

“I have news… super news. Fall migration is here!”

When Mr. McCone, Andi’s Life Science teacher, announced to the class that their assignment was changing, so they could search for a rare bird – a Kirtland’s Warbler – in their small hometown of Killdeer, he never dreamed what it would lead to…

Andi and Colin are at it again – everywhere they go, they find a mystery.

This time the mystery is a ghost! In a graveyard!

Of course, I can’t reveal anything that might spoil the book for you, but believe me, young readers will love the colorful characters and the not-so-normal town of Killdeer.

I can’t wait to share the Andi Boggs series with my grandchildren. This series is just the style of books that young readers will enjoy – family, friendship and loyalty – along with mysteries and excitement they will be sure to love!

Great job, Amanda! Keep writing them – and we’ll keep reading them!
