At least until Ben shows up to lend support to his ailing dawdi…

Gardening side by side with pretty, nurturing Emma is a sweet kind of torture for Ben. She could have her pick of suitors who can offer what he can’t, and he cares too much to burden her with his secret. Leaving once more is the only option.

Huckleberry Harvest – Book 5

Huckleberry Harvest Cover
Mandy Helmuth doesn’t like Noah Mischler. Not one little bit. First he breaks her best friend’s heart, and then he has the nerve to chastise her for being a busybody.

She feels quite justified in her dislike until Noah does something heroic, like save her life, and she’s forced to bestow her grudging respect even as she determines to keep her distance. But when she unwittingly stumbles into his family troubles, she catches a glimpse of the person Noah so successfully hides from others.

Will Mandy be able to look past Noah’s rough and unyielding exterior to see the man she is destined to love?

Much to Noah Mischler’s annoyance, uppity Mandy Helmuth thinks she has the right to tell him how to live his life. If he weren’t helping Mandy’s grandfather install a stove and fix his roof, Noah wouldn’t be within a mile of Huckleberry Hill or that nosy girl who gives him a lecture every time she opens her mouth.

But when Mandy discovers the horrible truth about his father, Noah is forced to reveal humiliating secrets that he’s never shared with anyone. He trusts her with his secrets, but can he trust her with his heart?

From the Heart by Rosemary Hines

Sandy Cove series (#5)

From Goodreads:
After the loss of her beloved husband Phil, Joan Walker struggles to stay afloat in a sea of grief. Then she happens upon a discovery that will impact her entire family and challenge her future.

Will Phil’s legacy be able to restore joy to her broken heart?

Join your Sandy Cove friends in a tale of love and unexpected gifts in this Christmas story ~ From the Heart

MY THOUGHTS:

What a wonderful read!

From the moment I began reading, I couldn’t put this book down! I have been following these characters for more than a year, and this novella follows the patriarchs of the family — Phil and Joan — parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents to many of the other characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed following Phil and Joan’s story, as they met, married and went through life, blessing one another and those around them. This novella shares how Joan continues to receive strength from her relationship with Phil, even after his death.

She has many tough decisions to make — even though I knew it was just a story, I was touched by how Rosemary created such realistic characters, that I could lose myself in the story, hoping that everything would work out for Joan, as well as her daughter… and other family members.

As usual, I was not disappointed. I heartily recommend this novella — this series — to readers everywhere who enjoy reading inspirational stories.

And if you’re looking for a great Christmas read… pick up a copy of From the Heart, available just in time for Christmas!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received an ARC of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

David Lapp…

David Lapp survived a “code blue” when he was in a buggy/semi truck accident in Seymour, Missouri. Now after extensive therapy he has lingering mobility problems and is still struggling to find his place in the world.

Lured away from Webster County by thoughts of closed buggies and a postcard friendship he’s developed with an Amish girl in Jamesport, he moves north, hoping for a fresh start. He finds work in the area tying flies and basket weaving, selling his products in the Amish markets in the Jamesport area.

Rachel Miller…

Rachel Miller dreams of travel, but feels tied to her Amish life. She is being courted by Obadiah Graber, but wonders if there’s more to life. When she sees David’s name mentioned in The Budget, she strikes up a pen pal friendship with David while he’s in the hospital and in therapy, consoling him when he and his girlfriend part ways. She never dreams that David will come north and move into her community.

David is still fearful in the buggy, especially in high traffic areas. Feeling he’s called by God to preach, David spends hours in the Bible, but the Amish discourage him, believing their ministers should be drawn by lot. Will David follow his call, even if it takes him out of the Amish church? Will Rachel realize her dream to travel?

Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the spirit of his masters. Proverbs 25:13

The Birdhouse

Twenty-year old Greta Miller’s daed has been injured in a farming accident during the summer.

The supportive Amish community tries to help out, but Gretta and sister must work outside the home to make ends meet. Greta rents a booth at the Farmers’ Market.

Because Greta is still in her rumspringa and free to explore the world, her family selects her to sell her homemade jams, jellies, and preserves to Englischers.

While working at the Amish market, she renews her acquaintance with Amish man Josh Yoder who crafts birdhouses for sale at the Amish Market.

Josh wants to court Greta, but years ago, he made the mistake of rejecting her during a seemingly innocent game—which resulted in him leaving the Amish. Three years later, he’s back and she wants nothing to do with him.

Josh struggles to fit in and rebuild relationships he’s destroyed. Knowing Greta’s family needs help, he steps in, hoping to win Greta back. When Greta admires one of his birdhouses, he gives it to her, hoping that would help to open the door to more.

But as their friendship begins to grow a series of unfortunate events pull Greta away from the Amish, leaving her rejected by those she loves. Will Greta get beyond her family’s distrust and return home? How will she prove her innocence? Or will she remain outside her Amish community?

The Amish community in Appleseed Creek’s new bishop believes the best way to help his district in the struggling economy is to increase tourism.

He invites Blue Suede Tours from Mississippi to visit the community and asks his district to host the southern visitors.

The Troyer family agrees to participate in the tour with an old-fashioned milking demonstration on the family’s dairy farm.

But when two Mississippians die during the milk taste test, the local police chief believes someone poisoned them, and Timothy Troyer’s father is her number suspect.

Computer whiz, Chloe Humphrey, jumps onto the tour bus as an undercover tour guide in order to prove her boyfriend’s father is innocent despite the Troyer family’s reservations about her and Timothy’s relationship.

If they solve crime, will Chloe and Timothy finally prove that they belong together or will the investigation be the final act to tear them apart?

“Another hit! Amanda Flower has done it again. A Plain Malice is the perfect conclusion to the Appleseed Creek Series. Witty, clever and filled with unexpected twists and turns, this is one book you don’t want to miss.”

Amish quilt shop owner Angie Braddock has a lot on her plate this Christmas. But things only get worse after someone develops a taste for murder…

Angie’s parents are visiting Rolling Brook for Christmas—but unfortunately, her ex is joining them.

Luckily, Angie has no time to dwell on her romantic troubles as she prepares her store, Running Stitch, for the town’s traditional progressive dinner, featuring a sleigh ride stopping at each shop for a different course of the meal.

The meal ends with an Amish-themed Christmas play at the Swiss Valley Hotel and Barn. But the performance is cut short when an actress falls from the scaffolding to her death.

After the sheriff suspects foul play, tensions between the Amish and Englisch heat up, as do rivalries among the acting troupe.

Now Angie and her quilting circle must stitch together clues before they’re the ones running for cover…

A historic debut featuring a museum director who gets caught up in a murder mystery!

As the director of Barton Farm, a living history museum in Ohio, Kelsey Cambridge is underpaid and under-appreciated, but she loves every minute of it.

Determined to keep the struggling Farm open, she plans to impress the museum’s wealthy benefactress, Cynthia Cherry, with a four-day Civil War reenactment on the Farm’s grounds, complete with North and South encampments, full-scale battles, and an Abraham Lincoln lookalike spouting the Gettysburg Address to anyone who will listen.

Unfortunately, the first shot in the battle isn’t from a period rifle but from Cynthia’s greedy nephew, Maxwell, who plans to close the Farm when he inherits his ill aunt’s wealth.

On the first day of the reenactment, Cynthia and Maxwell stop by, and Kelsey and Maxwell have a public argument over the Farm’s funding. The next morning, things go from bad to worse for Kelsey when she discovers Maxwell dead in the brickmaker’s pit.

Now Kelsey is the police’s number one suspect, and she must start her own investigation to save the museum . . . and herself while the War Between the States rages on around her.

Home is where our story begins …

DANA JACOBS would rather forget the night of tragedy and violence that marred her childhood. She is now supervisor in charge of the Department of Homeland Security in Taos, New Mexico. Her team is prepared to handle any threat—biological, chemical, conventional, cyber, even nuclear. BENJAMIN MARSHALL is newly assigned to Dana’s office. Straight from a six year military deployment, he is not what Dana wants or needs.

Ben knows God has a reason for putting him in this place at this time—to help Dana. When a local school is threatened, they open a case which leads them on a chase through the Enchanted Circle and Carson National Forest, pursuing a man filled with a bitterness Dana can understand. But her anger is different. It’s justified, it remains hidden inside, and it hurts no one.

Can Dana face her own mortality? And when she does, can she truly understand what it means to forgive and to be forgiven?

Amish-village-collage-1024x341

The Amish Village has been decorated with every color of balloon and flower for the Race for a Cure race. The turn out is fabulous and money is being raised to support cancer research.

Then Ryan Duvall is killed as he crosses the finish line. Who would do such a vile, violent, brash thing in broad daylight? And why? The police suspect Preston Johnstone, but Amber refuses to believe her employee could do such a thing.

Nerves are strung tight as Amber has spent the last several weeks dealing with the poison poet, an individual who has been leaving notes containing bad poetry and baked goods which are supposedly tainted with various toxins. Can they help the police stop a killer before he—or she–strikes again? Could Preston have done it during one of his dread flashbacks? And why is someone tormenting her with threatening notes and poisonous baked goods?

Both Amber and Hannah will need to draw on their faith and trust in God’s grace and mercy as they fight to preserve what they’ve built at the Amish Village.

Murder Freshly Baked is the final book in my Amish Village Mystery series set in Middlebury, Indiana. I’m super-excited about this release.

Where Healing Blooms | Vannetta Chapman Marathon

Today I am reviewing Where Healing Blooms, an Amish Garden novella by Vanetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis from Goodreads:

Gardens are a place to rest, to draw near, and to heal.

When Widow Emma Hochstetter discovers a run-away teenager in her barn, and the bishop asks her to provide a haven for a local woman and her two children she finds her quiet life has been interrupted.

Then, her mother-in-law, Mary Ann, reveals one of her garden’s hidden secrets, something very unexpected. Will she continue alone or will she accept the gifts God has given her?

MY THOUGHTS:

When I began reading this novella, I expected a short, simple romance, obviously involving Emma Hochstetter.

Shame on me!

How on earth could I not expect Vannetta to shine – even in a novella!

I love the relationship between Emma and her mother-in-law. It’s truly a blessing – for both ladies.

From there the story really takes off, with one surprise after another…

If you’re a follower, you know I don’t write spoilers ( at least none that haven’t been revealed in the synopsis) so I can’t say more, except to tell you if you get the chance, buy The Amish Garden and read the wonderful stories for yourself!

Hidden | Vannetta Chapman Marathon

Today I am reviewing Hidden, the very first novel in the Jacobs Family Series by Vanetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis from Goodreads:

Home is where our story begins …

DANA JACOBS would rather forget the night of tragedy and violence that marred her childhood. She is now supervisor in charge of the Department of Homeland Security in Taos, New Mexico. Her team is prepared to handle any threat — biological, chemical, conventional, cyber, even nuclear.

BENJAMIN MARSHALL is newly assigned to Dana’s office. Straight from a six year military deployment, he is not what Dana wants or needs.

Ben knows God has a reason for putting him in this place at this time — to help Dana.

“A lovely romance between a complicated woman and a big hearted man, tension that builds steadily to a fever pitch, and a story of faith rediscovered make Hidden an engaging read.” ~Kelly Irvin, bestselling author of the New Hope Amish series.

MY THOUGHTS:

Inspirational… Romantic… Suspense…

Wow! That pretty much sums it up!

I wish I knew how Vannetta creates and describes her characters – they’re so full of life, so bigger than life!

I had barely made it into Chapter three when the descriptions I had been reading about fully enabled me to see, in my mind’s eye, the characters, office, even the file Dana was holding.

Vannetta has such a marvelous way with words that it is a pleasure reading her novels. I come away feeling like I’ve been reading about co-workers or neighbors – people I see often – and I begin wondering where the Homeland Security office in my small town is located. Obviously I need to look for a building that would “look” like anything but a Homeland Security office.

I don’t want to go further into what happens – you already have the synopsis (shown above) to lead you through the story – and I refuse to put any spoilers in my reviews.

But trust me when I say this is an awesome read and you will enjoy every moment of it!

You can purchase a copy of HIDDEN on Amazon… although it wasn’t expected to release until September 30th, the paperback version was released on September 18th! The ebook version will be available on September 30th – pre-order it today for only $3.99 – a huge savings!

Murder Tightly Knit | Vannetta Chapman Marathon

Today I am blessed to have received an advance copy of Murder Tightly Knit, the second novel in the Amish Village Mystery Series by Vanetta Chapman.

This wonderful mystery is expected to be released on December 16, 2014 in paperback and ebook – just in time to make terrific Christmas gifts, so be sure to pre-order extras for family and friends.

Here is a brief synopsis from Amazon:

In a town where Amish and Englisch mingle every day, a grisly murder leads to mutual suspicion. Can Amber and Hannah find the killer before fear unravels the community . . . or he strikes again?

Even before she heard of Owen Esch’s death, Hannah Troyer knew something was amiss at The Cat’s Meow yarn shop. The store has been closing at odd times, the ever-dependable Mary isn’t always at her post . . . and an Englisch man has been seen loitering around back.

Now, as leaves of brown, gold, and orange blanket Middlebury, Indiana, Owen lies dead on the Pumpkinvine Trail. The only clues to the murderer’s identity point in two very different directions—one of them leading right to The Cat’s Meow.

The police call in a federal investigator, but Hannah and Village manager Amber Bowman are in no mood to wait for them to figure out what they already know — that no one from the Amish Village could have killed Owen Esch.

Amber and Hannah will need to work quickly to solve the murder mystery and bring harmony back to the Amish community.

MY THOUGHTS:

One word… AWESOME!

I don’t know how Vannetta writes such a terrific mystery, with Amish and Englisch individuals all running around, getting in each other’s way. She creates so many interesting characters, somehow making each one look suspect at one time or another!

By the second chapter, I began guessing who the murderer might be…

But this is no simple who-dun-it… oh no! The synopsis might state that Amber and Hannah believe that no one from the Amish Village could have killed Owen Esch; but the fact remains that he was murdered and as new characters are introduced, each one seems to have an agenda, perhaps even a reason to kill poor Owen.

Chapter after chapter, I studied the individuals, watching them (well, technically I was reading the story, but I tend to get caught up in the story and it’s easy to find myself smack dab in the heart of Amish territory, which in this case means Middlebury, Indiana.

Obviously, I’m not going to spill any more beans than the synopsis already has… and I’m sure you don’t want me give anything away… but believe me, this story is amazing!

If you read and enjoyed Murder Simply Brewed, you’re really gonna love Murder Tightly Knit!

And that’s not the end… Murder Freshly Baked is expected to be released sometime in June 2015!

WOO HOO – another Amish Village Mystery! I can’t wait!

Murder Simply Brewed | Vannetta Chapman Marathon

Today I am reviewing Murder Simply Brewed, the first novel in the Amish Village Mystery Series by Vanetta Chapman.

Here is a brief synopsis from Goodreads:

Spring has arrived in Middlebury, Indiana, and Amber Wright can see profits in sight for her collection of Amish artisan shops—until she receives a call that Ethan Gray is dead.

Hurrying over to A Simple Blend, she finds a single hole in the front window and Mr. Gray dead from an apparent heart attack. All the money is still in his register.

Hannah Troyer takes over the shop’s duties, and she and Amber become fast friends as well as amateur sleuths. The police believe Gray’s death to be a by-product of vandalism, but Amber and Hannah aren’t so easily convinced.

Old Testament clues that don’t add up, a neighbor who is pulled into the midst of the investigation, a town with secrets to hide, and blossoming romance—all will combine to push Amber and Hannah into unfamiliar roles in order to solve a mystery and bring peace to the Amish community.

MY THOUGHTS:

Wow! It began so quietly… for a moment or two I thought it might not be as exciting and “mysterious” as Vannetta’s Shipshewana Amish Mystery series…

au contraire!

I have never, to my knowledge, finished a book, only to pick it up again almost immediately to read through again, but that is exactly what I did!

Murder Simply Brewed proved nearly impossible to put down… I can’t remember the last time I felt so anxious… so nervous… waiting for the killer to make their move!

The characters are amazing! Vannetta has captured so many different personalities. Putting them together to solve the mystery works perfectly. I love her idea of adding the “mystery package”. I laughed and laughed over the idea!

Honestly, I cannot say enough about how much I love Vannetta’s writing…

I have quickly learned that Vannetta’s books all belong on my “top shelf”.

A Simple Amish Christmas, the first Vannetta Chapman book is my favorite was my favorite since the day I read it… until now. Murder Simply Brewed has stolen 1st place!

Pick up your own copy today… don’t miss this fantastic read!

Shipshewana Amish Mystery Collection | Vannetta Chapman Marathon

Guess what’s available for your eReader beginning September 23, 2014…

The Shipshewana Amish Mystery series – all 3 wonderful books – by award-winning author Vannetta Chapman is now available in one volume!

Here is what Goodreads has to say:

FALLING TO PIECES

When two women — one Amish, one English — each with different motives, join forces to organize a successful online quilt auction, neither expects nor wants a friendship. As different as night and day, Deborah and Callie are uneasy partners who simply want to make the best of a temporary situation. But a murder, a surprising prime suspect, a stubborn detective, and the town’s reaction throw the two women together, and they form an unlikely alliance to solve a mystery and catch a killer.

Set in the well-known Amish community of Shipshewana, Indiana, Falling to Pieces will attract both devoted fans of the rapidly-growing Amish fiction genre, as well as those who are captivated by the Amish way of life.

A PERFECT SQUARE

In A Perfect Square, Amish-English sleuthing duo Deborah Yoder and Callie Harper set out to solve a murder. But more than an innocent man’s future is at stake. In book two of the Shipshewana Amish Mystery series, God’s grace touches the long-lost past as well as lives shaken by current tragedy.

There’s more to the quaint northern Indiana town of Shipshewana than handcrafted quilts, Amish-made furniture, immaculate farms and close-knit families. When a dead girl is found floating in a local pond, murder is also afoot. And Reuben Fisher is in jail as the suspect! Reuben refuses to divulge any information, even to clear himself of a crime Deborah is certain he didn’t commit. So, with her English friend, Callie — fellow sleuth and owner of Daisy’s Quilt Shop—Deborah sets out to uncover the truth. But the mystery deepens when an elderly man seeks Callie’s help in finding his long-lost daughter, missing since the days of the 1965 Palm Sunday Tornadoes. An old man who has lost his past. A young man who may lose his future. Once again Deborah and Callie find themselves trying to piece together a crazy quilt of lives and events—one that can bring unexpected touches of God’s grace and resolve the tragedy that has shaken this quiet Amish community.

MATERIAL WITNESS

The Fall Crafters Fair has barely begun in Shipshewana when murder strikes the small town once again — this time on the property of Daisy’s Quilt Shop. It will take all of the sleuthing skills Deborah Yoder and Callie Harper possess to catch the perpetrator. But the stakes are higher than ever before, since the Material Witness is their best friend’s child.

Masked identities, antique quilts with hidden messages, an Amish boy whose handicap makes him stronger, one brave dog, and a possible hidden treasure … this time it’s nonstop action, danger, and a dash of romance. This mystery takes everyone on a journey of faith deep into the heart of God’s grace.
