A Promise of Hope (Kauffman Amish Bakery Series #2) | Amy Clipston Marathon

A Promise of Hope
Today I am reviewing A Promise of Hope, the second novel in the Kauffman Amish Bakery series by Amy Clipston.

This is what Zondervan has to say about A Promise of Hope:

In A Promise of Hope, the second book in the Kauffman Amish Bakery series by Amy Clipston, an Amish widow with newborn twins discovers her deceased husband had disturbing secrets.

As she tries to come to grips with the past, she considers a loveless marriage to ensure stability for her young family … with her faith in God hanging in the balance.

MY THOUGHTS:

I was not even close to being prepared for what was revealed in the first few pages of A Promise of Hope!

Imagine finding out that someone who was known for his heroism… is hiding deep, dark secrets…

Now, I’m not completely gullible enough to believe that the Amish do not make mistakes. I know better; they’re human beings just like the rest of us. But shouldn’t their vows cause them to try harder (than most of us) to do the right thing ?

Amy Clipston is such an amazing writer that she knows better than to make her characters perfect, or nearly perfect. Instead, she dwells on how they try to do the right thing… at least most of them… most of the time.

A Promise of Hope is exactly that…

People who make mistakes, but try harder to do what’s right. That’s the sort of characters Amy writes about… characters easy to like, yet some with a past just waiting to catch up with them.
And it was very easy to get caught up in this story – even from the very beginning… when an English woman from his past shows up asking Luke questions about his brother. After she divulges where Peter is living, Luke decides to pay him a visit.

The first novel in the series centered around Jessica and Lindsay, two young girls whose parents had passed away. When Luke arrives in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, he meets Lindsay, who is adapting well to Amish life.

But what does he do when Peter isn’t there… and no one seems to know just who Peter really was!
I love this series. Even though I now own every novel and novella about the Kauffman family, I’m still sad when I get to the end of a book.

I promised to give away a copy of the first book in the series to the first person named “Rachel” who commented here… but there were none, so I declared the first person to add a comment the winner – Mary Cloud, who shared that she has read Amish fiction before, but none by Amy Clipston. Mary, I think you’re going to like Amy’s novels.

Congratulations, Mary! To show my appreciation to you, I’m also including the second novel – this one – The Promise of Hope!
